The Smell of the Sausage Sizzle
On Saturday I was watching my daughter’s final netball match for the session. As I stood there I could smell something. It was a good smell. It was a very good smell. It was the BBQs cooking the food to purchase. There was eggs, bacon and sausages. I am not sure what got my attention, but it was smelling good.
The funny thing is that I was not even thinking of eating anything before arriving at the netball courts. I was not even hungry. However the smell had got me to a point that I bought and ate an egg and bacon sandwich. Not just me, but after the game my daughter did the same. The power of smell is strong.
When we often try to convince someone of something we use facts and figures. However quite often this is not what gets us to buy or form an opinion. If I was told about the BBQ and the options available I would still not have been interested. It was the yummy smell of the cooked product that had me wanting the product and drew me in.
- Can you think of a time that you tried to convince someone to do something?
- Is there a way that you could have drawn them to the same conclusion instead?
- How would it be easier for you to draw people to you than convince them of your point of view?
