Running Bare Foot

Yesterday morning I did my morning run a different way than normal. I ran without shoes. I had heard a little about barefoot running and wondered what it was all about. It was an interesting experience. At the start it was a very strange feeling and then after a little bit it become a very relaxed feeling. I was enjoying the run. However that relaxing feeling did not last as I developed some blisters….

There is much writing online about the pros and cons of barefoot running or minimalist running. I am not going to get into the benefits or the disadvantages of barefoot running as it is not my personal area of expertise, however I will say it was a new experience and it did have me running differently.

My experience of barefoot running had me thinking about many of my new experiences… At the start a new experience can feel awkward and very uncomfortable. However over time we get more comfortable with the experience and over time the experience can seem the norm. I encourage you to explore your curiosity…

  • What is holding you back from exploring your curiosity?
  • What can you do this week to start your exploration?

  1. Apparently people that don’t wear shoes have only 3% of the knee, hip, foot and back problems of those that do! It is interesting stuff!

  2. As children we never thought about it, barefoot was best and just was normal. I wonder if we had kept on running that way whether we would find shoes abnormal. 🙂

  3. Yes, running barefoot is a great metaphor for life, and for how we live our life. Do we ‘run barefoot’ in our daily adventures? I’ve been taught to always put my shoes on first, but I admit, I prefer barefoot, and when I have enough courage, that’s how I run.

  4. how cool that you tried barefoot running = I am not sure if I can do that yet – but I have been walking around barefoot more and more – and that is not always in my comfort zone! argh – anyhow, I also like your plug to be curious – well said – 🙂

  5. Hey Attila, Great, running barefoot. I run barefoot with shoes still on. I wear INOV-8. Practically bare foot running. Great shoes, almost like you are flying. And staying curious is the best way to dive into new things. You can not loose, you will have a lot of near wins. Near wins eventually lead to mastery!
