Too Much for Children…

Over the Christmas – New Years period we took a family retreat up in the mountains…. We used the time together to strengthen our bonds and also do some cool activities. Some of the cool activities on offer included mountain biking, swimming pool with a water slide, gym, indoor soccer, basketball, table tennis, squash, walks, chairlift rides, bobsled, tennis, golf and lots more……

So with children aged between 9 and 14, I would have thought that they would have been out most of the day enjoying what the mountains have to offer. In fact we even had 2 way radios to make it easier for them to get out and about without always having an adult with them…. Well what happened?

It seems that the mountains activities were too much for the children. Maybe they are not as fit as I thought…. However, only one of them was able to use up 16 bobsled rides in 7 days…. Yes that is right…. They could not even use up all there bobsled rides. Today I took most of them out for a small bike ride and wow…. They were exhausted.

So whether it is that they are not fit enough to last the day out and about or whether it is they prefer to sit in front of television, computer, ipod and iphone screens, I do not know. What I do know is that my children are not as active as I was and I like to be….. Not to worry the most important thing is that we had a good time together and the children all had a great time.

  1. We are planning a trip to the mountains this summer. Great reminder to make sure they get the outdoor time/hiking before hand so they can enjoy it to the fullest.

  2. I think it’s because of children’s addiction to technology, iPods, iPads, Xbox etc, my kids are the same. Sounds like you had fun though so that’s good.
