Scouts Australia International Conference
This weekend has been a big weekend as I attended the Scouts Australia International Conference as part of the ACT Team. This annual conference offers the opportunity for all the international scouting teams from around Australia to come together share with each other, learn from each other and be inspired. The event was held in Canberra at the Scouts ACT Camp Cottermouth.
There were plenty of presentations from each of the states and also the national program coordinators as well. Then there were the discussions about where International Scouting is going. It was great to have more youth members around the table this year than in previous years. The input from the youth members certainty provided a greater perceptive of what young people see in terms of international scouting.
There was also the dinner and receptions that we attended on the Friday and Saturday nights. On the Friday night we attended the Indonesian Embassy under the hospitality of the ambassador and his staff. Then on the Saturday night it was off to the Sri Lankan High Commission under the hospitality of the High Commissioner and his staff. These functions were a great way to learn about both these countries, while also developing our international connections and networks.
So what is the outcome for youth in the scouting program? I believe that there will be more opportunities to develop themselves through participating in International activities. I also believe that there have been some good outcomes for the streamlining of business processes that will empower more young people to participate in international scouting. I look forward to the next 12 months of International Scouting and the positive impacts of these programs will have on young people in the Scouting Movement.
