The Weekend that Was…

Birds Hand Feeding

I wish you all a very Happy Easter. For some of you, like me, this is an important event in the spiritual calendar, for others less so and then for others you may be asking “what is Easter?” In Australia we get the Friday and the Monday as public holidays, however this year, Kim and I had no children with us over the Easter period. So we spend some time together, attended Easter Sunday Mass and also caught up on some work and housekeeping. However, the weekend prior we had all the children and had a lovely family weekend.

The previous weekend we went out both days, north on Saturday and south on Sunday. On the Saturday we visited Gold Creek and went to the Bird Aviary. I have been to Gold Creek a number of times and been to Cockington Green a number of times, however never to the bird aviary. It was great to get out with the children and experience something new. The birds were all very friendly, fed out of your hand and even fought over the food. It was great to see the children move from panic when a bird lands on them to be relaxed as the birds feed from their hand.

Children at Gold Creek

On the Sunday we celebrated Anna’s birthday as she turned nine on the Monday. This involved a trip down south to Bredbo, where we had the yummiest pancakes. It was a lovely relaxing way to spend the day, while having a family moment to celebrate Anna’s Birthday. We first popped into the Snowy Hydro Information Centre in Cooma. There is plenty in there for children to see and do as they learn about the Snowy Hydro Scheme. However I would have to say that the Bredbo Pancake and Crepe Restaurant would have to be a must stop location for everyone heading towards to the Snowy Mountains.

It was lovely to spend some family time and it got me thinking about how we only have children for first part of their lives, such a short time…. Do I….

  • Making the most of each moment?
  • Experience new things with them on a regular basis?
  • Build the memories with them?
