“Jack Reacher” the Movie

On the weekend it was great to get some one on one time with Kim, my lovely wife. We went to watch the movie “Jack Reacher”. The movie is based on Lee Child’s book “One Shot”. The book is one in a series of books about a character called Jack Reacher. I was put onto the series by an Army friend of mine, Duncan, who won the Jack Reacher look-a-like competition. He even got to travel to the USA to attend various functions and meet the author.

Jack Reacher is a former Military Policeman who travels around the USA with nothing, but the clothes on his back. Where ever he goes he finds people in trouble and helps out in a way the law is not able to help. The books are full of action, where Jack Reacher is in the middle of it all.

I enjoyed the action and the storyline of the movie. The only disappointing part was the choice of Tom Cruise for the role of Jack Reacher. In the book Jack Reacher is a larger character that is well built, like my friend Duncan. Though Tom Cruise is a good actor, he just did not have the size and build for this character.

Overall we had a good night. I enjoyed spending some time out alone with my wife and we got to see an action filled movie. What more could you ask for?

  1. My son and I went to see this and loved the movie. I wasn’t familiar with the book character, so I didn’t see any issues. The thing I like about Tom, as an actor, is he gets much more involved in his own stunts. This brings a little more realism to his characters.

  2. Thanks for this review. I love the Reacher series and have been disappointed with the selection of Cruise. It’s good to know that it doesn’t have to ruin the experience.

  3. I’ll have to check it out. I’m always interested in a good movie :)

  4. I went to this with my friends over the holidays too – and this is exactly what we thought! Tom wasn’t quite the right build for the role as per the books. But I guess when your an influential part production accuracy doesn’t matter right? Ah well, our imaginations shall be exercised once more :)

  5. I havent read any Lee Childs so am not familiar with Reacher but Inhad heard there was disappointment about Cruise due to his physique. (That’s a strange thing to see written.)

  6. It seemed to me VERY perverse that they cast a famously short actor in the role of a VERY tall fictional character.

  7. My wife and I have to pick a date on the calendar and make that a date night. It’s our time to rekindle the fire. Often we go to a movie or dinner and a walk. Well done Attila.

  8. A friend who reads those books said that Tom wasn’t the right size. I wondered if, while viewing the movie, that would matter to those of you who read the books. Interesting. I think it would have bothered me, too.

  9. I’ve heard from several folks exactly what you have said – it was all good until Tom Cruise was (mis)cast for the part! So sweet that you always call Kim “my lovely wife”.

  10. Sounds like a great time, take them when you can :)

  11. Jack Reacher was filmed here in Pittsburgh. I was able to get some photos of scenes, but they kept people so far away, I had to use the zoom lens. Unlike the new Batman movie, where we had more access. I still have to see the Jack Reacher movie. I agree, Tom Cruise is not a good physical fit for the part.

    BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
