A Simple Tool to Improve Giving Directions

Have you ever misunderstood what your boss wanted you to do?
Have your staff ever carried out your directions, however the outcomes and not what you expected?
Have you ever wondered what your boss wanted to do or you didn’t think it made sense? (Don’t worry your staff have in the past felt that way about you too).

Do not feel alone, these are common misunderstandings in any organisation. However what can we do to improving communications and in giving directions. The “5 Ws” is a simple tool that I learnt as a Trainee in the Army. The “5 Ws” are Who, What, Where, When and Why……

I have written an article on “The 5 Ws” and hopefully this tool will be useful for you too. The article is located at:

  1. This is very helpful! I’ve always had a hard time explaining things, so this really helps 🙂

  2. They also come up in Kipling’s Six Serving Men

I have six honest serving men
They taught me all I knew
Their names are what and where and when
And Why and Which and Who

  3. Great article Attila, practical information with an easy executable format 🙂

  4. A very informative article, thank you. I particularly like how you summed it all up at the end. Blessings from Lizzie Joy
