Celebration of Work and Retirement
What does it mean when you have passion for your work? It means that you never work a day in your life. It means that enjoy what you do and that working is not a task, but an important part of your life that drives you. Yes you will have days and maybe even weeks that you are not fully satisfied with your work, however when you have a passion this is temporary. What happens with passion is that you look at work as an important part of your life that has meaning and is a part of who you are.
I saw this today as we celebrated a long standing staff member retiring. It was not a celebration of finally getting to the end of their working life and now can finally live life. What I saw was a person that had had a very fulfilling life, enjoying work. There was mixed feelings, this was a sadness of leaving something that is a passion and the excitement of moving into another phase of life. The new phase of her life is to include travel and a move.
As I reflect on this celebration today, I think about my life. Do I enjoy my work? As I think about this question, I can answer ‘yes’. However I think that it is important that we all reflect on this question and ensure that we live our life with passion.
